            For Intro to Broadcasting, my plan was to create a radio show, or podcast. Thus, the tools that I would use would be the studio, digital audio recorders, and fellow classmates. I have been talking to Kim and Sarah about working together, sharing SD cards, and helping each other out in the editing room. I am more than willing to help more people out though; through other classmates’ projects is how I will learn about video production because I am basing mine off of audio. That way, by the end of the semester, I will have fully gained knowledge of both audio and video. For the production process, I used the in studio audio recorders. After recording my audio with a 2 GB SD card, I edited my podcasts through Sony Vegas 11, which I downloaded on my laptop, and used on Kim’s as well. Once the editing had been done to my standards, I uploaded the episodes onto the class’ YouTube channel. My contribution to the class is slightly different in that I am doing a radio show, but I think that will make the channel a little more diverse because there is so much to broadcasting. After uploading my episodes, I put links onto my blog and tweet about my new episode and upcoming episodes.

 My plan is to create a total of five episodes, and I am proud to say that I have kept my end of the deal; I have completed five episodes, all of which I enjoy. The first episode will be the pilot and the fifth episode will be the capstone to my project. These podcasts will be two to five minutes in length, depending on how much information I have. My rough idea of a schedule is to have a podcast every two weeks, which means my first episode, or pilot will be heard on October 8^th and my last podcast will be heard the week of December 3^rd.

            I want the podcasts to feel like a radio show. I have noticed that radio hosts are very conversational. Along with that, they have to have a strong persona; you can only hear their voice. I plan on incorporating music and advertisements, with smooth transitions.

            For the pilot episode, I wanted to do a show related to celebrity gossip. I enjoy reading the celebrity magazines and that is a topic that I hear quite a bit on the radio back home. I wanted to do a celebrity episode because we, as a society, usually listen to the radio to hear the hippest tunes of right now. Our favorite artists and bands play music on the radio, and thus, being that they are of a celebrity status, are relevant to a hot topics episode. I brought up a topic (example: Kim Kardashian) and talked about a rumor going around about her. I discussed the topic, shared what I have to think about it, and then moved onto the newest celebrity scandal.

            For the capstone episode, I decided on having much more celebrity hot topics than the previous episodes. I will have “mini” stories, as well as the longer, discussion-style stories with a co-host. This episode will be the best one yet because I have learned so much from working in studio as well as working in the book that I decided to use with the course. Even though it is a radio show, I have included more pictures to go along with the hot topics. And I have also made my transitions and fade-ins and outs more smooth and effortless. As each episode has progressed, I have tried to be more warming and inviting. The fourth episode I did I was very sick, so I do not sound as good as I hoped, but I still try to be engaging and bring about a different type of persona to the listeners. When comparing my first episode to the capstone, I hope that the listeners will be able to tell that even though it is only audio recordings, I have still made vast improvements and tried my hardest to achieve a better episode each and every time.

            Even though I am not doing a television broadcast like most people in the class, I still believe that radio is a great way to get information out to people. Radio is a part of mass media that I am currently interested in and want to learn more about. With support from the class, knowledge of the studio, and doing the work, I believe that this semester will be a success.
